The actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, aged 86, suffers from cancer, he said in an interview with Premier magazine in September.
“I was afraid of cancer, but now I have one!”, The comedian says, on the screen of the last film of the Austrian director Michael Haneke, “Happy End” who had already directed it in “Love “.
“When I sign autographs – as I do not see much, it’s difficult but good – I sign + Jean-Louis Trintignant + and I specify below + at the end of his life,” he jokes, without giving any details about his illness.
At the Cannes Film Festival where “Happy End” was in competition, he explained that he wanted to resume in December at the Théâtre Antoine in Paris and next year at the Célestins in Lyon the show given in the spring at the Salle Pleyel in Paris with the accordionist Daniel Mille and a string quartet.
“I should stop, but I do not want to. The happiest moments of my life is when I work, when I do theater,” he confided.
Jean-Louis Trintignant has always pursued his career in cinema and theater. He played alongside Brigitte Bardot, in Roger Vadim’s “Et Dieu créa la femme”, and Anouk Aimée in Claude Lelouch’s “Un homme et une femme” and made more than 120 films.
In the late 1990s, he began poetic recitals with his daughter Marie, who died in 2003 of the blows carried by his companion Bertrand Cantat.
“I could have stopped my life at that time,” he said. But pushed by his relatives, he went back on stage, finding a “therapy” in theater and poetry.
